Our Story

It started around a campfire in 2014 with family and friends, deep in the Florida scrub (that’s the woods if you aren’t from around here), sipping good spirits while the kids played in the mud.

At some point, after a sip of an exceptionally good whiskey, someone said, “Wouldn’t it be cool to make things like this for a living?”

That simple idea started a journey.

We dove headfirst into the world of craft distillation, studying both historical and modern techniques. Along the way we trained through the Institute of Brewing & Distilling, completed apprenticeships and mentorships with experienced distillers, and spent countless hours learning from anyone willing to share their knowledge and passion for the craft. Of course, there was plenty of “market research” along the way too.

Whiskey and whisky, what’s the difference? Rum and rhum, are they really the same? Brandy, fruit brandies, gin, vodka, and moonshine flavored with ingredients grown right here in Florida.

The deeper we got, the more we realized distilling is equal parts science, craftsmanship, agriculture, history, and storytelling. What began around a campfire slowly turned into Indian River Distillery.
